The bible is full of examples where God uses very small beginnings and turns them into something massive, miraculous, amazing. God doesn’t need us to do miracles for him or to give him huge gifts or projects or buildings or even fantastic websites that touch the lives of millions. HE can do all that by himself – but just planting a tiny seed in someone’s life, nurturing it and feeding it and watering it so that it grows into a LIFE full of His love and grace and mercy; now that is what we can do and what gives Him a kick!!
And for me, that opportunity to just plant a seed for someone or some organisation or church – providing opportunities for people around the world to find your church or organisation; to be praying for you; to get connected with you; to support you; to join you; to find you – is what ‘Small Beginnings’ is all about – and that does not need to cost you thousands of dollars, or have an IT guru on your team, or take up a big chunk of your time.
I started this ministry because I sincerely believe that the internet is an amazing, God given resource that can provide wonderful opportunities to to celebrate our faith, witness to not-yet-believers, encourage fellow Christians in their walk with Jesus, and attract support for your church, ministry or mission – and we as believers need to be ‘out there’ celebrating what he is doing, witnessing to others and providing opportunities for other believers to join with us in ministry.
After hearing many pastors and lay leaders talk about the complexities of setting up a web page, expressing their fears and concerns about how to ‘do it’ or manage ‘it’ or pay for ‘it’, I felt called to reach out to the hundreds if not thousands of churches, para-churches, missions, ministries, etc. who SHOULD (which could also read ‘NEED to’ or ‘DESERVE to’) have a ‘small beginning’ on the Internet but don’t (yet). Your presence on the internet does not need to cost 1,000′s of dollars or be the latest, sexiest technology, or be filled with wonderful imagery and exciting articles – it simply needs to be there, to be genuine, to tell a story and to lead people to making a connection with you, your church or organisation that will help them to draw closer to Jesus – in whatever form that may take, and in a way that is right for your organisation.
And so in 2009 I started up Small Beginnings. Through my work with churches and other individuals I want to…
- see Jesus lifted higher – through churches witnessing to and encouraging others on the internet; and
- help those who are looking for a church – for a variety of reasons – to find you on the internet; and
- worship Him with all my heart and mind and soul and talents –by sharing my gifts and experience in this way; and
- help ease my brother’s load – with solutions that are effective, affordable and simple enough for a small church to manage; and
- help and encourage churches to communicate more effectively.
Believe me, the Lord really does “rejoice to see the work begin” (Zechariah 4:10).
